Director Dirk Yates is a military porn legend, the first to film and widely distribute videos of real military amateurs fresh from bases near his home. "I take them to motel rooms, friend's houses, as well as my own house and film them as they strip down to their bare-ass beauty." he says. The journey from military camaraderie to having a buddy's dick up your butt is not a very long march at Dirk's house. While some of the videos have regular porn models in them, most still cater to the military fantasy.

The recently re-launched Dirk Yates site includes streaming access to hundreds of Dirk's movies. But you have to keep in mind that many of these vids are older and were taken with a single camera in less than ideal conditions, so the quality is variable.

Tour

The Dirk Yates tour gives a good idea of the content of the site, but it doesn't provide any sample videos, large images or even in-depth text descriptions. You can readily browse through a graphic DVD title index, live show index and model index; however clicking in any further takes you right to the signup page, rather than a sample clip and scene description.

Usability

Usability could be improved. Basic navigation between sections of the site is easy enough, with the content divided into the major sections of "Titles", "Live Shows" and "Models". Click the "Titles" button and down the left column you'll find a list of the various Dirk Yates series such as: Str8 Off The Base, Top Brass, or Director Series.

But we're not sure what to make of the new "Scenes" index; it seems to be an incomplete subset of just some of the scenes found in "Titles." The "Models" index is not much help either as the majority of models don't have a picture, just a name. No general search box or categories for types of sex or guys, either.

Most irksome is that each of the full-length movies streams from beginning to end as a single file and you usually never know how many scenes there are or where one ends and the next begins (or even who's in each one). A few have scene dividing marks, but most don't; a filmstrip-type selector so that you can hone in on a particular spot in the video would be a great help.

The Men and the Action

The formula is straightforward: serve up fresh 19- to 26-year-old marine meat. If you have an appetite for straight-acting, unaffected guys with buzzcuts, you'll like this crew. Some of these guys are veteran jarheads, some are just fresh-faced boys from the mid-west. You do get the feeling they are for real, but when you see them with their heels over their shoulders, or earnestly following Dirk's direction to: "get your ass a little higher in the air" it's hard to imagine them fighting alongside their buddies in Iraq.

The sessions are almost always indoors in a very basic living room, bedroom or hotel room. Quite a few are solo sessions and there are lots of buddy jerk-off scenes. There is usually a little conversation between Dirk and his finds. For example, the guy will spout about all the girls he's fucked - just before getting plugged by a big dick or a large, firm dildo.

There are plenty of archived live shows, too. At up to two hours, these can be very long and most users will not find them as appealing as other content, especially when the camstud is tapping away on a keyboard for long periods.

Video Details

Dirk Yates, and his trademark style have been around for a long time. We respect his longevity, and we totally get why he shoots with the look and feel of amateur video. However, in this era of high-definition amateur productions, many of Dirk's older scenes have a dated, murky look to them. In many of the movies there's a lack of angles, close-ups, and poses. Too often, in an otherwise acceptable video, we have no evidence that the model has cum, because even when warned by the model, the videographer doesn't move into position to capture the shot properly.

There are over 460 Dirk Yates full-length releases on the site, adding up to around 1840 scenes. (In the newly-added scene index only about 240 scenes are presented but with no indication which DVD title they are from). In addition there are 840 archived live shows from when Dirk used to broadcast live shows. Additions are not dated in any way so it is hard to say how often new content is added.

Image and Other Content

There are no screen cap or digital image galleries on the site. Screen cap galleries would be very useful for surfers to preview the content of a title.

There is a large archive of over Dirk Yates Live shows (there are no new live shows being added). Some of these are military amateurs and others are porn stars.

Summing Up

Dirk Yates houses an enormous collection of his famous amateur military videos. The videos stream only, quality varies, and the new model and scene indexes are incomplete. Even so, these trademark videos will provide many hours of enjoyment for fans of military amateur video.
