Russian fail: "Condoms cause AIDS"

PutinRussia has already declared war on the LGBT community with its anti-gay laws. Now the Kremlin is taking on common sense.

The Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS) revealed to the Moscow City Duma Commission on Public Health that condoms were responsible for the increase of HIV and AIDS in the country.

"The contraceptive industry is interested in selling their products and encouraging under-aged people to engage in sex," said study co-author Igor Beloborodov for the Kremlin-backed group.

The Institute said the Western model for battling HIV is a failure because it targets "drug addicts and LGBT people" and that it could never work in Russia because of the "cultural, historical and psychological characteristics of the population."

The solution? Abstinence until marriage!

Vadim Pokrovsky, the head of the Federal Center for Fighting AIDS, disagreed. He has argued that condoms are the only real solution for battling the spread of the disease.

"The last five years of the conservative approach have led to the doubling of the number of HIV-infected people," he said.

Still, Beloborodov insisted that the best prevention is to be "in a heterosexual family where both partners are loyal to each other."

If ignorance is indeed bliss, then Russia must be the new Shangri La.
