Gux Mattox retires from porn

Gus Mattox calls himself an old man. His blue eyes and wide smile, however, coupled with his big guns and bigger cock, suggest the youth of a porn star at his peak. But, in his mid-40s, Mattox says he's past his prime and has decided to retire - from porn, at least.

Mattox, whose real name is Tom Judson, made the announcement in an e-mail to industry insiders March 20, GAYVN News reports. In it, he said that he wanted to exit the industry gracefully, while he is still at the top of his game, and that he has accomplished all he set out to do when he became an adult film actor two-and-a-half years ago.

"Since then I have learned more about the business and about myself than I could have dreamed," he wrote. "Stereotypes and assumptions were dispelled and myths were made happily human [...] Even though I’ll no longer be an active participant, I hope I’ll still be thought of as part of the family."

Mattox began his career as a Falcon exclusive, but has since filmed movies for a variety of studios, including Rascal Video, Lucas Entertainment and Titan Media, among others. Earlier this month he was named GAYVN Performer of the Year. "I’d like to think that I have left a small imprint on the business," he continued. "The business has left a huge and wonderful impression on me."

Before announcing his retirement, Mattox granted an exclusive interview to columnist Gio in which he discussed his history as a composer, stage actor and writer, as well as his most memorable experiences on camera and off.

Mattox told Gio that he plans to focus on his writing, including a monthly column for Unzipped Magazine, and hopes to begin anew his career as a serious stage actor. In fact, GAYVN News reports that he has been cast in a new play by Terence McNally, who penned "The Full Monty" and "Ragtime."

Mattox's website, www.gusmattox.com, will remain operational in his retirement.
