According to Aiden Shaw, honesty is always the best policy. And he certainly applies that policy in his just-released memoir, "My Undoing," in which he sounds off unabashedly about his life at various times as a porn star, a drug addict, a novelist -- and a role model.
Shaw, a truly modern Renaissance man, has worked as a (non-porn) actor, a director and an AIDS activist. He's also known for his candor. In 2004, he told Index Magazine, "I want my books to show that it's okay to do drugs, have sex and have a wild lifestyle. You can still find love and
cultivate profound friendships."
If "My Undoing" is any indication, Shaw has succeeded in his quest. The self-described "trash" turned author earns rave reviews from Rod Mac and John D. at Fleshbot, who write:
"So far we're only up to the second chapter but it's already earned pride
of place on our bookshelf thanks to its preface, which relates a torrid
sex scene that ends with a broken condom and a director yelling 'CUT!'"
You can preview that preface, in which Shaw boldly claims no regrets, online. But if you ask us, the photo on the front of the book is reason enough to turn to page 1. If ever there were a time to judge a book by its cover, it's now!
