Saggy pant ban spreads

Atlanta wants you to just say no... to sagging, low rise pants.

“Little children see it and want to adopt it, thinking it's the in thing,” said C.T. Martin, the city councilman sponsoring the bill. “I don't want young people thinking that half-dressing is the way to go. I want them to think about their future.”

The ordinance, if passed, would become part of the city code that governs sex in public, unwelcome fondling, and flashing. An interesting choice, considering most of those affected would be minors.

Debbie Seagraves, from the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia, thinks the code could be easily challenged in court. She also expressed concerns of a racist overtone, arguing that the saggy, baggy pants are part of hip-hop culture. “This is a racial profiling bill that promotes and establishes a framework for an additional type of racial profiling,” she said.

It seems more likely Martin, who is black, is going after an even bigger issue in the city: the dreaded plumber's crack!
