Folsom fights back

Folsom Fair"We can no longer stand by while Folsom Street Fair remains under attack," said Andy Copper, President of the Folsom Street Events (FSE) Board of Directors. "The Catholic League insists in provoking its followers, resulting in emails and phone calls threatening us with everything from ill-will to bodily harm …We can no longer remain silent on this issue."

The FSE is calling upon all open-minded Joes and Jills to contact Miller Brewing Company to express gratitude that the beer co. has continued to support the Fair in spite of pressure from religious groups.

The situation became even more heated this year after a poster for the fair re-imagined the last supper with leather men and a drag queen in lieu of Jesus and his disciples. And of course, with some of the crazy antics that take place at Folsom -- from public nudity, open displays of sexuality, and the odd puppy dog tail butt plug -- certain Christian groups have now increased their attacks on the annual gay festivities.

"They are attacking our San Francisco values of community, diversity, education, and freedom of expression," Copper continued. "If they do not share in our values or do not understand them, that’s fine; but, they have never opened up a dialogue with us. They have only stood in judgment, making threats."

But why worry too much about the fanatics? We have the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and a surplus of St. Andrew Crosses, so surely God is on our side!
