Mitt Romney: too tolerant for GOP?

Poor Mitt Romney just can't get a break. He's too tolerant for some (what?) and too intolerant for others (now that sounds more plausible). It has even been alleged that he once supported civil unions for gay people! Sure, he has quickly denied such claims, but will this revelation hurt his run to lead the Republican party into the next election?
