Firefighters take on nudists

For 29 years the Rolleston Fire Brigade has challenged the Pineglades Naturist Club in an annual volleyball challenge. And even with the distraction of flopping genitalia, the firefighters won this year's event.

The local police force also showed up. Constable Nigel Craythorne said the day out was just another community event they were happy to attend. "We managed to get numbers for the team ... eventually. The Pineglades team are pretty good but the only reason we came third (and last) in the tri-series was because we haven't been practicing."

Proving the nudity need not offend, the New Zealand event -- called Waitangi Day -- is part of NZ Naturist Federation's "gonatural week." Events during the week promote the naturist lifestyle to the clothing dependent while offering safe space for nudists to gather with like minded, and equally naked, peers. 

Maybe next year they'll be able to convince the firefighters and cops to lose the damn clothes!
