Spandex was created in 1959 by chemist Joseph Shivers. Little did he know that this newly formed fabric would become the main component for swim suits, lingerie and superhero costumes the world over. In fact, it seems most everything we wear these days has at least 10 percent spandex in it.
From cyclists to runners to long-haired, eighties' rockers, we love the way lycra shows off a man's package. So in celebration of National Spandex Day -- which we just made up -- we bring you our own little tribute to Lycra...
