Soap star fired for revealing too much?

Marcus Patrick will no longer be playing Jeff Carver on "Days of Our Lives." Word on the street is that the show's producers made the decision because of his recent full monty in the pages of PlayGirl magazine.

NBC claims there is no relationship between Marcus' spread and the network's decision to strip him of his duties on the show. There had been plans for doing away with the character for some time now.

Marcus, who is a dancer for Hollywood Men, appears on the erotic website Male Perfection, and strips in gay clubs, has his doubts.

"There were rumors running around that "Days" was going to terminate me due to my Playgirl Magazine cover, and also my dancing and stripping. I was told that it had nothing to do with it, but I am not sure that's true," he said. "The Playgirl issue was one of, if not the most, successful issues ever. It has sold at least 2 million copies and that translates into fans, which I would have thought would boost the ratings." [more]

Marcus thinks "Days" is making a terrible mistake, partly because they are doing away with a central black character. "If you look at today's television, it is still quite behind the times as far as involving people of color. "Days of Our Lives" in fact now will have only one person (a black man) as their ethnic character (token). There are over 22 caucasian people on that particular show. This doesn't reflect real life."

As for his plans to show off his naughty bits in the future: "I will continue to be comfortable and do nudity in films or other media as required. Again, it is art. Artists are here to represent and air the dirty laundry of society in both a dramatic and comedic sense so we can reflect and make change for the better and have fun at the same time.

 
The perfect mouthful!

And no, though he is comfortable dancing for a queer crowd, Marcus is not gay. "I get questioned all the time about my own sexuality. I dance at gay bars ... I attract a huge multi cultural and multi sexual fan base. ... I am a free being and I could care less what a person does in their bedroom as long as they treat me with respect."

With his engagement to ex-porn star Michelle Maylene, work on an album and several movies, we think Marcus is going to be okay. We certainly hope that he pops up nude from time to time to keep his many, many fans happy.
